Barbara J. Zweifel

May 1, 1958  ~ April 3, 2024

Barbara J. Zweifel, 65, a lifelong resident of Waterville, NY passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, in the loving presence of family. Her life was cut abruptly short from sudden and fierce symptoms caused by an undiagnosed cancer. She was born to Leo Charles and Althea (Wilkinson) Zweifel on May 1, 1958. After her father left this earth in 1969, Lynn D. Browne married her mother and became a father to her. Having a naïve belief as a child that she would live forever in the same home as her mother, Barbara never strayed far from that strong connection; she remained in Waterville and raised her own children in the beloved village. She remained devoted to her mother for whom she provided support and care in her mother’s later years. Barbara made a career of working at Sherwood Medical in Oriskany Falls. She later worked as a bartender at the VFW Post #2338 and then retired while working at Dollar General, Waterville NY, Barbara enjoyed lying in the sun by her pool and sharing her life with her many beloved animals. Most importantly, she cherished any opportunity to be with her children and grandchildren who she loved so dearly. Barbara is remembered by the elders in the family as always being cute and innocently mischievous; we look forward to experiencing the mischievousness that she will create in new ways. We ask all who loved Barbara to carry on whatever of her energy you appreciated most. This may call on you to care for parents, snuggle and play with children, adopt animals, labor diligently, and enjoy the sun with flourish. https://www.burgessandtedescofuneralhomes.com/obituaries/Barbara-J-Zweifel?obId=31132696

Hank Aaron breaks Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record

“On April 8, 1974, Hank Aaron of the Atlanta Braves hits his 715th career home run, breaking Babe Ruth’s legendary record of 714 homers. A crowd of 53,775 people, the largest in the history of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium, was with Aaron that night to cheer when he hit a 4th-inning pitch off the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Al Downing. However, as Aaron was an African American who had received death threats and racist hate mail during his pursuit of one of baseball’s most distinguished records, the achievement was bittersweet.”
